"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."

Jim Munroe, Author

Jim Munroe’s journey to writing children’s books began 25 years ago when his daughter had trouble learning to read. He had already written hundreds of poems in rhyme and knew that it was a fun way to form new words out of just one simple word. His first children’s picture book, The Sneezing Toucan, was published in 2021 and it received a 5 Star review from Readers’ Favorite and has been featured on the popular worldwide podcast, www.sleeptightstories.org. Jim’s second picture book, The Alligator’s Red Shoes, was published in 2024 and also received a 5-star review. Jim has appeared at numerous Meet the Author events in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, New York and Nebraska. Jim is a United States Navy Submarine Service veteran and a member of the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). When he’s not writing children’s books or working on a novel, he enjoys playing in a pool league, DIY home repairs, gardening and landscaping.

Broken Bridges

A mighty wind has blown in from the Gulf of Mexico,

Angry waves, torrential rain, a boiling tempest blow.

The path of sheer destruction is vast and it is wide,

Tossing boats and cars and houses and casting them aside.

Where do you take refuge when the earth begins to sway

And mountains, roads and bridges quickly wash away;

When waters roar like thunder where once there was a stream

And breaks down all your bridges and shatters all your dreams?

Where do you take refuge when the storms of life prevail,

Surrounded by such heartache and pain and tears and wails?

Where do you seek shelter in this present time of need,

When all that you can really do is fall down on your knees?

Now is the time for all of us to join in hand in hand

And be the bridge for broken lives across our shattered land.

God is our refuge and our strength, our help in troubled times,

Be the hands and feet of those who have mountains they must climb.

The road ahead is long and hard but we know this much is true,

We’ll build again because we are, the Red and White and Blue.
